“This feels so good,” said tournament MVP D.J. Wright, who averaged 24 points per game. “I don’t know how to express myself.”
DJ Wright finishes off the job. He and his Salt Lake teammates rally back from a second half double digit deficit to beat Midland and claim the title.
Wright was named Tournament MVP and named to the All-Tourney team. Did I mention that was a unanimous MVP vote.
Not quite the shooting performance in the finals that he had in the previous rounds – numbers were 3/10 from the field, 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks. But Salt Lake wins 67-60 which is all that matters. Quite a nice little program they’ve got going there as Salt Lake was last season’s runner-up.
Quick summary of the awards Wright has won in the last couple of weeks:
- All-conference first team. Conference MVP.
- All-region first team. All Region MVP
- All-national tourney first team. National Tourney MVP.
I’m going to go ahead and step out on a very very small limb and say he’ll be first team All-American.
