Notes/DJ Wright All-America/Millsap/other good stuff

No surprise here as it’s now official – D.J. Wright named first team junior college All-America. Click here for  the full list

Other notes gleaned from the Internet and message boards:

  • According to this article  in the Tuscon Citizen Tech will be visiting Arizona on December the 9th. Could be a good early test for the Dawgs.
  • The same poster on latechbbb who stated that Brandon Gibson had torn his ACL and was done for next season now is saying that after a second opinion it was only a strain and that Gibson should be good to go for next season. I really hope this is true as Gibson really showed some good things late in the year and if he is healthy really boosts the depth for the Dawgs next season.
  • The Salt Lake Tribune is working their way through naming a list of the top 50 all time best Jazz players. Paul Millsap check in at #34. Click here to read more. They haven’t named their top three but I’ll bet you can figure out who number one is going to be.
  • Congratulations to Shawn Oliverson for being named Academic All-WAC. Good to see a young man take care of his work in the classroom as well as on the court. Not really a surprise for Oliverson to get this award if you remember he went to an Ivy league school first out of high school.
  • Congratulations as well to former Tech player Brian Martin who returns to coach his alma mater in Arkansas. Martin played for the Bulldogs during the Gerrod Henderson era. He was a three point specialist. Click here to read the article.
  • Next week is the start of the spring signing period. According to my math Tech can sign either two or three depending on if the APR situation will allow for the full thirteen instead of the tweleve scholarships the Bulldogs had this season. Some combination of a point guard and a big are needed. No news on who Tech is planning on signing. Usually at the midmajor level that means a nice surprise.
  • The Grassroots Canada AAU program is one that has been very connected to Tech since Rupp became head coach. Current Bulldogs Olu Ashalou and Yonas Berhe played for the Ro Russel led program. Future Bulldogs Kadeem Coleby (frosh next season) and D.J. Wright (incoming fall 2010) also donned the uniform. Another Grassroots player JuevolMyles signed with Tech before not qualifying academically. Whoever runs their website was kind enough to link to one of my DJ Wright stories in their alumni news section. I feel obliged to return the link. Click here to check out the Grassroots website.
  • Soon as this posts I’m on the road to Ruston for the spring game. Looking forward to the annual spring tradion of tailgating, adult beverages, and sunburn. My prediction is whichever team has Porter will win.
