One Spring Signee so far

A new point guard will be making his way to Ruston. Jarvis Davis from Ridgeview High School in Columbia, South Carolina inked on the first day of the spring signing period.

For the official release from the athletic department – click here. I’ll quote from it below.

Davis stands 5’11″ at 170 lbs, and is described as competitive and a hard worker with very good ball handling skills. He averaged 19.5 points and 4.3 assists per game and was named one of the top five seniors in the state of South Carolina in AAAA. Davis was also selected to play in the 2009 South Carolina-North Carolina All-Star game.

Ridge View head basketball coach John Combs said Davis is a lightning fast prospect who has gotten better each year he coached him. “He’s probably the fastest guy in the state this year baseline to baseline with the basketball,” Combs said. “His best basketball is still ahead of him…

My take: Davis looks like the point of the future for the Bulldogs. An All-State player in the largest classification in South Carolina who has only been playing organized basketball for three years. He’s got a huge upside but he’s not the answer for next season. Hopefully we will have a juco point sign later this signing period but adding Davis to Coleby and Redding makes three quality high school players in this class which everyone should love. Now we wait for the final scholarship(s?) to be filled.
